 Focus on the Fabulous

Winter Fest was a ton of fun!  Thanks to Miss Hays and the Student Council for putting together a fun week in February for our students!  Students and staff dressed up throughout the week, there were some exciting competitions, and the royalty was crowned at the basketball game Thursday night!

Center athletes were shining bright this past week!  Thursday night we had a full house at our annual Hawaiian night.  Each of our basketball teams got the win!  The JV girls’ and boys’ teams got positive vibes started, winning both of their games. The girls' varsity was action-packed going into overtime!  The Lady Vikings prevailed, keeping their heads when things got tense, and making the important shots.  The final score was 46-41. The boys’ game was a little less stressful as they won by double digits with a final score of 36-25.  Way to go Big Blue!

Our Viking wrestlers performed extremely well at regionals and came away as the regional champs!  Congratulations to all involved in helping the team have success this year!

Jordan Duran, Andre Meraz, Aaron Valadez, and Martin Palma all took 1st place in their weight classes and claimed the top of the podium!  Jesus Valadez earned 2nd place.  Nicolas Palma, Francisco Villa, and Caden Ruggles placed 3rd.  Devin Thompson earned 4th place and Lorenzo Trujillo took 5th place.  Great job Vikings!  We are proud of the success you had this season!  Good luck at State!

Rewind

It wasn’t just our Viking athletes that were showing up and showing out.  Elliot Cardoza, speller extraordinaire, competed at the regional Spelling Bee and took 2nd place!  Congratulations Elliot! We are proud of all our middle schoolers who competed at the annual spelling bee competition!

Last week was National School Counselors Week.  We are very fortunate to have the counseling team that we do in Center!  They are a wealth of knowledge and experience and provide a multi-faceted approach to meeting the needs of our students.  They work every day to ensure that we are accomplishing our second Core Belief- with our support, ALL students can achieve at high levels and be successful in life.  Thank you, Adele, Stephany, Jerica, Genesis, Katrina, Celina, Mary, and Denice, we couldn’t do it without you!

I also want to celebrate our amazing food services team.  These ladies work hard every day to make sure all the Viking tummies are full of some pretty amazing food!  Thanks to Dianna and her team for the healthy, delicious food that keeps all of us #VikingStrong!

Last week Mountain Engineering was on site with the drilling rig and conducted the boring for the Geotechnical study.  This is the first step in the construction process for our new track and field.  We were thinking that this might not happen until March, so we are excited to share that we are ahead of schedule at this point!

We are also partnering with the town on applying for a GOCO grant.  This weekend we received word that our proposal was one of 18 out of 34 that was accepted to go on to the next round.  We are excited about this opportunity and appreciate the partnership with the town to continue to work on upgrades to the Community Park!
