Focus on the Fabulous

It’s hard to believe that we are starting our 2nd quarter of the school year. We had a successful first quarter and everybody is contributing to our shared ownership approach. At the beginning of the year, we discussed successful businesses and that when we are all working together for the good of the cause, everyone- especially our students, benefit. We hit the ground running at the beginning of the year and that positive momentum has carried us through the first quarter of the year. This month you will receive your first share in our ownership structure.

Positive momentum has been generated through the R & R team. We have a productive team in which everyone is contributing to the work, based on individual strengths and interests, and that has made the overall load that much lighter. The team met this last week for the third meeting of the year, to debrief the Homecoming Tailgate, and start making preparations for upcoming events that include a staff appreciation day after our CPI training on November 3rd and plans for our annual Christmas Party. A shout-out to Christy Mikeljack, who also heads the Sunshine Committee, and her work in connecting with our new local newspaper contact, Marie McColm. Thanks to those efforts, we’ve already had some great coverage in the Center Dispatch and there’s only more good news to come!

Our Multi-Lingual Team, made up of Amanda Alanis, Anna Bishop, Alex Magness, and JoAnn Lopez, has been working together to review our EL program and put together a comprehensive guide outlining our district instructional approach. They met this past week and finalized the document that will be submitted to the state. This work will help to define the “Center Way” in our Multi-Lingual Program.

Haskin Elementary is being intentional about student belonging and daily restorative circles. This time is dedicated to checking in with students, giving them a chance to share and be heard, and working towards our core belief in providing support so that all of our kids can be successful and achieve at high levels!

We had another successful Professional Development Day. Thanks to Ashley Lane and Kevin Hagan for taking on this responsibility and providing our staff with comprehensive professional development, tapping into the expertise of our “in-house” experience.

Our Lady Vikings have been on a roll and have won the last 4 of their 5 games. The girls had some big wins over Trinidad, Monte Vista, Creede, and Antonito. They lost a close one against Sangre this weekend to break their streak. They are headed to Sierra Grande on Monday to get back on the winning side! Way to go Lady Vikings!

Rewind

Congratulations to Alicia Rios for competing at the state level in softball! She was a big part of the team's success and we are proud that she is a Center Viking!

Our second-grade team had some fun this past week, visiting our local fire station. This is a great experience for our students, getting to know our local first responders, as well as having the opportunity to be exposed to possible career options for themselves!

Our District Ownership Team (DOT) met on Wednesday to update our District Action Plan and prepare for the launch of our Graduate Profile and Strategic Plan in January. Paul Beck from CEI participated in our DOT meeting. We reviewed our 5 Improvement Strategies, and the work we’ve been doing, and worked on setting annual and long-term goals specific to our action plan. The Unified Improvement Plan, from which our District Action Plan (DAP) is pulled, was submitted to the state on October 15th. The work included data analysis, identification of trends and root causes, delineation of priority challenges and improvement strategies, and revisions to our action plans.
