February 1, 2021
It has been a challenging time for our Center family. Losing one of our students leaves a gaping hole in our hearts. During times like these, it’s important for us to lean on each other, support each other, and remember what truly is important in our world. Lizbeth will always be remembered. We are blessed to have known her. We will continue to do our best to support her family and all of our students by being present, listening, and leading with our hearts. Thank you all for the love and support you have shown already. I can’t put into words the gratitude I feel to all of you for pulling together the way you did. The supports that were put in place for our students and staff, the fundraisers that were set up, the donations that flooded in, the wonderful remembrance ceremony that was held, the blue ribbons, the purple balloons.. all of these heartfelt gestures demonstrated the love and care of our Center family. Thank you.
National School Counseling Week
The first week of February is dedicated to our school counselors. The value of our school counselors cannot be underestimated and the importance of their presence has just been reinforced over the last few weeks. Please take a minute to thank them for all they do for our kids and our staff. Our team is multi-talented and serves in a number of different roles, meeting the needs of our kids to make sure they reach their fullest potentials. We are fortunate to have the wide array of skills and talents that they bring to our district. Here’s to Elissa Harrington- our elementary counselor, Ashlee Welsh- middle/high counselor, Katrina Ruggles- middle/high counselor and grant coordinator, and Adele Alfson- high school counselor and guidance support.
Thank you all!!
New Website Roll Out
I’m sure you’ve all noticed by now, but our new website was launched this weekend. Julio Paez, our tech director, has been working hard to get everything in place for that. He and his team have worked to get everything transitioned over to the new site. They have spent a lot of time and energy on making sure that the site looks the way we want it to and represents our district. Great work tech team! The new app is almost ready to be rolled out..so be looking for more information on that!
Rewind
January is a wrap. Administration finished up mid-year evaluations and it sounded like there were some good conversations that took place. I had the opportunity to get into classrooms last week, and it always does my heart good to see kids learning and our teachers in action! Our administration team met for our monthly PLC. We are trying to walk the walk and hold the same level of expectations for ourselves as we do for everyone else on the team. Stephanie Hensley did a great job facilitating the meeting, Luis Murillo led us in a team-building activity, and we had some good conversations related to data-informed decisions.
We had a special BOE meeting Wednesday evening and the board gave final approval on our revised budget for the 2020-2021 school year.
Thursday our students participated in ICAP and the afternoon was spent with staff meetings and work time. We completed our first two nights of Parent-Teacher conferences for the second semester.
Our facilities team has been working hard even though they are getting pulled in a lot of different directions. They have built partitions for classrooms so that kids can have some social distancing barriers in place. This will help us to increase class sizes while still following safety protocols. All of our winter weather has increased their workload as well. They have shoveled, plowed, and spread salt so that we can get in and out of buildings safely. The team has still been able to take care of the day-to-day tasks of keeping the district up and running. Thanks to everyone for pitching in so that our district can operate safely!
Forward Focus
The Recruitment and Retention team will be meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday morning we have an MLT meeting and Wednesday evening will be our last round of PT conferences for the year. Wednesday will be a regular school day for our K-12 staff. Elementary staff will be done at 4:00 pm and the middle/high will conduct parent-teacher virtual visits until 7:30 pm. Thursday afternoon there will be a safety meeting with our Safety Team, led by Steve Martinez.
Thanks for your commitment to our kids. Have a great week!
