Viking Wrestlers Shine at State Competition

Our Viking wrestlers delivered outstanding performances at the state wrestling competition this past weekend, showcasing their hard work, dedication, and resilience. The team finished an impressive seventh overall, with two athletes capturing state titles!

Congratulations to Gizelle Meraz, who won the 4A state championship at 115 lbs., and Aaron Valadez, who secured the 2A state title at 150 lbs.

In addition to our champions, several other Vikings reached the podium:

  • Caden Ruggles earned third place in his weight class—an exceptional achievement for a sophomore.

  • Michael Archuleta, another sophomore, finished fourth.

  • Martin Palma and Andree Meraz both placed sixth in their respective weight classes.

We are incredibly proud of our wrestlers for their dedication and for representing our district with determination and sportsmanship. Way to go, Vikings!

Breaking Ground on Our New Additions Project

Exciting developments are underway for our district! We have officially broken ground on our new additions project, which will enhance our facilities and expand learning spaces for our students.

This project includes:✅ Four new classrooms✅ A new Board room✅ An additional gym.

We are working with Spencer Architects and Alcon Construction to bring this vision to life. The new additions will be built on the south side of the district, connected to our CTE building.

Why This Expansion Matters

With an increasing number of student programs and support services, our current facilities have faced capacity challenges. These new spaces will allow us to maintain high-quality instruction, expand student resources, and support community partnerships.

Additionally, our district serves as the hub of the community, providing space for local events and outside organizations. To keep everything running smoothly, it’s essential to continue investing in and developing our facilities.

Thanks to effective budgeting and strong financial planning, we are able to fund this project without placing an additional burden on taxpayers. We’d like to recognize Walter Roybal and SLV Federal for their support in helping bring this project to fruition.

While the project faced some delays due to state-level permitting and approval processes, we are now moving forward and excited about the future of our district!

Stay tuned for updates as construction progresses. Together, we’re building a brighter future for our students and community!

Our Food Services team embodies Core Belief #4—We are all committed to excellence in all we do every day.

Led by Dianna Valenzuela, this dedicated team ensures that our students receive delicious, nutritious meals daily. From breakfast and lunch to snacks, they play a vital role in supporting our students’ well-being and success.

What sets our Food Services team apart is their commitment to quality and care. Many of our meals are prepared from scratch, bringing the comfort of home-cooked food to our students multiple times a week. Their hard work and culinary talents have made our school meals the envy of other districts—and we are truly spoiled by the incredible dishes they serve!

District Ownership Plan at Work

The District Ownership Team (DOT) has established long and short-term goals for each of our improvement strategies.

Priority #3- Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS):  CCSD will maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior.  Structures are in place to support all students' academic and behavioral needs.

Our preschool team hosted Doughnuts for Dads to allow our families the chance to visit their children's classrooms and get some first-hand experience with the learning that is taking place! This is part of the district's efforts at sustaining strong family, school, and community relationships!
