Focus on the Fabulous
Celebrating Our Amazing Team Members
Susan Banning embodies our CCSD Core Beliefs, demonstrating daily that with the proper support, ALL students can achieve high levels of success and thrive in life. As our McKinney-Vento Coordinator, Susan consistently goes above and beyond, ensuring that some of our most vulnerable students and their families receive the necessary resources and care. Recently, she helped a family navigate through significant challenges, coordinating services, arranging travel accommodations, and securing funds—all while stepping into roles beyond the typical responsibilities of a school district. The family made positive strides in their lives thanks to Susan's tireless dedication.
Susan works tirelessly behind the scenes, doing this essential work for countless families year after year. We are incredibly fortunate to have her on our team. Thank you, Ms. Banning, for being a shining example of a True Blue Viking!
Shout Out to Our Haskin Super Students and Mrs. Brenda Montoya!
At Haskin, we believe in recognizing students who go above and beyond in their academic and behavioral efforts. Each week, teachers select students who have been working hard, and we celebrate their achievements through our Super Students program. Mrs. Brenda Montoya does a fantastic job organizing this weekly recognition, where students receive certificates, get their pictures taken, and are honored on the Super Students board. Her dedication ensures that students feel valued and appreciated, and we are so grateful for her commitment.
Thank you, Mrs. Montoya, for making our students feel seen and celebrated! We appreciate everything you do.
District Ownership Plan in Action
Priority #1- Curriculum and Instruction: CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom aligned with CCSD Instructional Expectations.
Last Friday, Kevin and Ashley skillfully organized another exceptional professional development day. Their work ensures our efforts align with the District Ownership Plan, walkthrough observation data, and teacher quality standards.
Staff engaged in deeper learning on sheltered writing instruction, techniques for student engagement through Kagan structures, and tools for differentiation to ensure all students access the curriculum as active learners. The SPED and CLD teams also delivered practical sessions with strategies we can immediately use in our classrooms.
The day wrapped up with a Title IX presentation by Mr. Lavier, our Title IX Coordinator.
Thanks to everyone who made the day a success, including our dynamic duo in the kitchen! Dianna and Gabby prepared breakfast and lunch that was incredible and helped make the day extra special! Thanks, gals!
Priority #2—Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness: CCSD seeks to develop hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, future-ready, and empowered with the skills necessary to meet and handle the challenges they will face in today’s world.
Priority #3—Multi-Tiered System of Supports: CCSD will maintain high student learning and behavior expectations. Structures are in place to support all students' academic and behavioral needs.
Last week, Mrs. Gonzalez’s Life Skills class worked on goal-setting through a hands-on competition, practicing teamwork and communication. Despite challenges, students learned the power of collaboration to achieve their goals!
Priority #4—Recruitment and Retention: CCSD is committed to attracting the best and brightest to teach our students. Our goal is to recruit, train, and retain highly qualified teachers. Effective educators are the single most important school-based factor determining student success.
On Friday, Agnes and Dawn from the R&R team finished delivering Blue Crew Viking swag bags to community partners, supporting our goal of fostering positive relationships with families and the community. The bags included fun treats, a copy of our District Ownership Plan, and an invitation to our Viking Pep Rally and Harvest Party. Thank you, ladies, for spreading the Viking Vision!
Rewind
Our 3rd and 4th-grade girls had a blast during their Pee Wee volleyball season!
At Tuesday’s board meeting, the CCSD Board of Education recognized our two True Blue Heroes, Armando Ruybal and Alyla Garcia, for their life-saving actions in helping a classmate. We are incredibly #VikingProud of them!
Our Safety Team, Mr. Chuck Kuhns, reviewed district safety systems on Wednesday. Chuck and Mr. Lavier ensure we stay current with policies, procedures, and processes. Due to ongoing SRO staffing challenges, we are purchasing high-quality 2-way radios for enhanced communication and looking into hiring district security personnel. Chuck also attended recent CDE training on safety and security and is scheduling a threat assessment training for key staff members.
