Focus on the Fabulous

A massive shout-out to our outstanding facilities team! These gentlemen—and one tough lady—work hard daily to keep our district in tip-top shape for our students and staff. They help keep our ship afloat so that our students have a quality learning environment. Please give our team a big thank you when you get a chance. Facilities Director: Chris Segura; Facilities team: Panta Villagomez, Abel Martinez, Emma Pfohl, Randy Martinez, Derek Salas, Cameron King and Rico Garcia Luna.

The Center Consolidated School District is deeply committed to building a brighter future, thanks to the entire Center community's dedication, hard work, and intentional efforts.  Our team works collaboratively at every level to prioritize what matters most: our students.  In Center, students genuinely are the CENTER of everything we do.

Over the past few years, students, staff, families, board members, community leaders, and business owners have united to strengthen our district’s vision and mission.  Through this collaboration, we’ve developed a comprehensive District Ownership Plan, which you’ve heard me reference frequently, focused on four priority areas:  Curriculum and Instruction, Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness, Multi-Tiered System of Supports, and Recruitment and Retention.  This plan will serve as our guiding framework for the next five years, with clearly defined goals and tasks to achieve along the way.  Our vision paves the way for high achievement and success for our students, positioning them to thrive in their academic pursuits and beyond.

I will work to report on the DOP and the efforts being made in our priority areas each week.

District Ownership Plan in Action

Priority #1- Curriculum and Instruction:  CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom aligned with CCSD Instructional Expectations.

I was able to get into several classrooms last week to see district priority #1 in action!  Students in Mrs. Thompson’s 3rd grade class were actively engaged in their math lessons.  Students were practicing their multiplication tables together and Mrs. Thompson had students doing kinesthic exercises while practicing their facts.  In Ms. Lane’s class, students were completing graphic organizers while working on inferences and character traits.  She kept students engaged using a couple of Kagan strategies.  In Mr. Vigil’s high school class, students were presenting to their peers on reconstruction after the Civil War.  Students were able to explain concepts in their own words and make the information relatable to current times.  Each of these lessons was aligned to Colorado Academic Standards (CAS), engaged students throughout the class period, and challenged students at the appropriate rigor!

In Mr. Kriss’ middle school science class, students learned about forest conservation from members of the Rio Grande Water Conservation team- Hannah and Matea.  Sixth graders identified an elm tree in front of the elementary that they were able to take measurements on to determine monetary and environmental savings the tree provides to the school and surrounding area.  Students will make posters about forest conservation this week using what they learned.  This excellent real-world lesson for our students allows them to connect about how what they are learning can impact the bigger picture!

Priority #2—Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness: CCSD seeks to develop hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, future-ready, and empowered with the skills necessary to meet and handle the challenges they will face in today’s world.

PWR meetings have taken place this year. Work is ongoing to establish some internships for our high school students. Our Graduate Profile is in place, and t-shirts promoting the GP have been distributed to the community, staff, and students!

Priority #3- Multi-Tiered System of Supports:  CCSD will maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior.  Structures are in place to support academic and behavioral needs of all students.

The MLT is meeting on Monday.  The team is working on establishing baseline data for their annual goals.

Karla Stockley and Michelle Sisneros are living out our priority of building positive student relationships. Last week, the students invited their teachers to have lunch with them!

Priority #4—Recruitment and Retention: CCSD is committed to attracting the best and brightest to teach our students. Our goal is to recruit, train, and retain highly qualified teachers. Effective educators are the single most important school-based factor determining student success.

The R & R team has been busy.  We met last week to debrief on the Ribbon Cutting and Tailgate and our work session.  So far this year, our team has delivered swag bags to our partners in the community and co-hosted the ribbon cutting and tailgate for the first home game on the new football field.  The team is prepping for homecoming activities, including the Harvest Festival.  Christy Mikeljack is compiling a CCSD scrapbook to document our district's successes!  One of the team's goals is to promote the district and the profession!  Wendy Murillo supports our district health and wellness efforts with her monthly newsletter, The Pulse, and the fun updates in the bathroom, The Toilet Paper!  We are also making plans to attend upcoming job fairs!

Many people are stepping forward to demonstrate ownership and share in the district work! Great job, team. We’re all in this together!

Delivering True Blue Swag Bags to our community partners!! Way to go R & R team!

Rewind

Last week, I did the final walkthrough of the track surface. This week, the track striping will be completed, and the scoreboard will be installed by the end of the week. The track and field are nearing completion, and it is just in time for us to break ground for our next capital construction project!
